The Directorate for Animal Protection is the specialized structure within the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police, with general territorial competence in the field of coordination of activities regarding the prevention and combating of acts of a criminal contravention nature that have as their object animals in a dangerous situation.

In order to fulfill the specialized and functional attributions, the missions and professional tasks, the directorate coordinates, guides and controls, on a specialized line, the activity of the structures with competences in the field of animal protection established at the level of the county police inspectorates and the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest .

In fulfilling its duties, the Directorate for Animal Protection cooperates with state institutions and collaborates with associations and non-governmental organizations, as well as with natural and legal persons, in accordance with the law.
