The REAF's F-4 Phantoms formed a significant portion of Emmeria's air defense. The majority of these airframes were acquired in the 1960's and became part of the REAF's "Big Three" fighters (F-4, F-5 and Mirage III). The Phantoms routinely intercepted Estovakian Bombers in disputed territories and was the nation's main air superiority fighter of the era.

Over the course of their lives, Emmeria's Phantom fleet received comprehensive avionic upgrades and two major SLEP’s. Despite this modernization effort, the type was already seen as a lumbering relic in light of newer airframes like the Tomcat and Eagle. The last of the F-4E's, relegated as reserve aircraft, were retired in 2012.
